Alleppey Daily India

Alleppey | Kerala Backwaters

When we were there:

Mid July (low season)

Where we stayed:

On the first night after arriving in Kochi we stayed at Lake Castle, Alleppey Villa, which is near the starting point for the houseboats. It was nice clean accommodation and the guys running the place were really helpful.

Through Lake Castle we were introduced to a guy called Prince who runs KV Houseboats we were able to walk down to the dock and peruse a lot of houseboats. We actually did end up choosing the KV houseboat which was by far the cleanest and best. We were in Alleppey during low season and managed to hire the houseboat for 2 nights for 15,000 IDR, inclusive of all food and snacks. If you want to have beer or any alcohol on the boat you will need to visit a “wine shop” to purchase your own, which is an experience in itself. These are all government run, to find one just ask a tuk tuk driver to take you there. Before you hop on the boat also make sure you organise some ice to keep your drink cool.

Where we ate:

On the first night we ate at Mushroom restaurant in Alaphhuzha (Alleppey),  great authentic dishes also for a great price!

On the boat, the cook was really great and made authentic Indian dishes, we enjoyed every meal.

Stuff we did:

A lot of relaxing and playing cards and talking shit on the boat.

What we thought:

A great relaxing way to start our trip in India. Don’t be put off by going in low season, it did rain at times but we really enjoyed it. Do it!!!
